Insurance and claims

General documentation tips. Cover depends on your policy wording: sudden damage is treated differently from wear and tear or a system that has failed over time.

Document

  • Photos and short video of any backup, wet ground or damage before anything is cleaned up.
  • Note dates, heavy rain or flooding, and when the system was last emptied or serviced.
  • Keep receipts for emptying, cleanup and anything you replace.

Claim

Notify your insurer as your policy requires. Damage inside the home from a backup is often handled differently from repairs to the system itself.

A septic provider can describe technical findings; they do not replace your claim or give legal advice.

Not legal or insurance advice.
