Blockages & overflowing tanks

Cut water use where you can and keep people and pets away from any sewage; the tank, pipes and drainage field are checked to find the cause.

What this covers

Toilets backing up, gurgling drains, sewage on the surface or a tank alarm that will not stop.

Do this first

  • Cut water use: spread out laundry, showers and the dishwasher.
  • Keep people, pets and vehicles away from wet ground or any sewage.
  • Do not lift or climb into a tank: gases inside can be deadly.
  • Note when the tank was last emptied and where the lids are, if you know.
